Inmarsat has launched a new emergency service for FBB users with no subscription or call charge.  
 
After dialing 505 (chosen because it is similar to SOS) the user will be connected to one of the global Rescue Co-ordination Centres (RCC).  
These centres will operate 24 hours per day and are there to give advice and provide assistance to vessels in distress.
