Q: Is it necessary to insert any card to use my mini-M?
A: No the mini-M can be used activated and commissioned with or without Sim card. Please contact Navarino Telecom Sales department for further clarification.

Q: How do I register my mini-M?
A: mini-M terminals can be activated-commissioned through an ISP as well as the telecommunication authority of the country where your vessel is registered. Please send your request to Navarino Telecom Sales department.

Q: What is the registration fee and the airtime rates for a mini-M?
A: Please contact Navarino Telecom Sales department.

Q: The display of my mini-M reads "MES not authorized" or "MES time out"?
A: Check if the terminal/Sim card is properly commissioned (contact Navarino Telecom Customer Care department). If so contact your hardware supplier as the terminal is probably malfunctioning.

Q: What number should we dial in order to reach a mini-M?
A: The terminal can be activated with four phone numbers: two voice numbers (one for the handset and one for the additional phone), one fax number and one data number. Additionally by using a SIM card you will get another five numbers (provided that the card is inserted into the terminal). All numbers could receive calls. Please remember the international code for the Ocean Region (Global = +870; AORE = +871; POR = +872; IOR = +873; AORW = +874).

Q: My mini-M indicates, "Wait for NCS" in the display when just switched on?
A: This message means that the mini-M has not been able to receive any signal from the satellite. The message is normal for some few minutes when just switching on the mini-M. Check that the antenna is pointing towards the satellite (check with the Antenna Azimuth & Elevation Map). If this indication persists contact your hardware supplier.

Q: After switching on my mini-M requests for a PIN, PUK or PUC code?
A: The mini-M or the Sim card which is inserted is probably being protected by a security PIN code. Do not attempt to insert any code (except you have been provided with it). We suggest contacting Navarino Telecom Customer Care department before any action is taken. If for any reason you type any incorrect code the terminal/Sim card could be locked permanently.

Q: The display of my mini-M reads, "Cannot find satellite" or "Searching for satellite" in the display?
A: The problem could be that the antenna is not lined up towards the satellite, or the line of sight towards the satellite is blocked. A tracking antenna, for maritime and/or car-phone mini-M will usual automatically line up towards the satellite, while the portable and/or big dish should manually be lined up. Problem could also be that the mini-M cannot track the frequency transmitted by the satellite. This is a case contact your mini-M supplier.

Q: My mini-M indicates "Congestion" or "Busy with call" in the display when I try to make a call?
A: The mini-M is occupied on one of the other services (Fax, Data, or other voice call). Please check that the AUX phone, fax or data port is in use.

Q: How can I make a phone call on my mini-M?
A: You have to remember that you always have to dial international calls when using a mini-M. Type in your called number as: 00 (e.g. 00 3010 41 11 311, phone number of Navarino Telecom S.A.).

Q: Can I also make a voice call on my mini-M when it is connected to a mail server?
A: No, it is not possible to have more than one connection at the same time.

Q: How to send a fax using my mini-M?
A: You have to remember that you always have to dial international calls when using the fax machine connected to the mini-M. Type in your called number as: 00 (e.g. 00 3010 42 26 041#, fax number of Navarino Telecom S.A.). # is required after fax dialling the number.

Q: I cannot send a fax to another fax machine connected to a mini-M?
A: mini-M-to-mini-M connection is not a feature that can be guaranteed by mini-M manufacturers. The main problem is the negotiation between the two fax machines is corrupted due to the long delay (mini-M -> Satellite -> LES -> Satellite -> mini-M gives a total distance as minimum 144.000 km).

Q: Can I install any fax machine I want to my mini-M?
A: In theory yes, but Navarino Telecom is only recommending some few types, the Samsung and Olivetti, as they have been heavily tested. Please contact Navarino Telecom sales department for more information. If you choose any other fax machine, please let the supplier of the fax machine make the set-up to the mini-M for you and make sure that operates by tone mode and that the modem speed is 2.400 bps for incoming and outgoing fax messages.

Q: I am using a fax-program on my PC/Laptop but I cannot send/receive faxes?
A: You cannot use the ordinary data port of the mini-M when faxing. This port is designated for data communication only. You will need an external modem connected to the PC/Laptop and the AUX/Fax port of the mini-M. Please remember to set up this port for Fax communication. It is easier to use a normal fax machine dedicated for this purpose.

Q: Do I need a modem to be connected between my PC/Laptop and my mini-M?
A: That depends of what you want to do. If you want to send e-mails or go on the Internet, you have to connect the PC/Laptop to the data port of the mini-M (use a straight line serial cable RS 232) and then you will be using the build-in modem in the mini-M. Whereas if you want to send faxes from the PC/Laptop, you have to connect a modem to the PC/Laptop and connect the 2-wire cable to the AUX/fax port of the mini-M.

Q: Is it possible to extend the cable between handset cradle and Main Terminal?
A: This is not recommended by any mini-M manufacturer as it can have a negative effect on the sensitivity of the signals running in the cable. The cable is standard.

For any other purpose or problem might appear using your mini-M terminal, please fill and return the attached questionnaire to Navarino Telecom Customer Care department and we will assist you with the best possible way.
