StratosMail is a cost-effective and reliable two-way messaging service that enables the user to send and receive e-mail messages to and from ships via Inmarsat C terminals anywhere in the world. The basic requirement is local Internet access and Inmarsat C terminals onboard the vessels. The user simply prepares and sends an e-mail message, which is addressed to the vessel's ID via the server.

E-mail messages are received by Stratos, automatically transformed into telex text and sent to the vessel, which receives them as standard telex messages.

For each message, the user receives an e-mail confirmation when successful (PDN - Positive Delivery Notification) or a Negative Delivery Notification (NDN) when the vessel's terminal is switched off, logged off or has a problem.

As an option, it also allows crew members to exchange messages to and from shore-based Internet e-mail addresses.
