Blue Ocean Wireless (BOW) provides for the first time mobile GSM connectivity for seafarers operating in deep seas merchant vessels.
Users can make and receive phone calls and send SMS text messages.
BOW allows seafarers to use their own mobile phones in exactly the same way as they do on land. In order to provide the GSM service over satellite, BOW has established partnerships with industry leading companies, among them Inmarsat & STRATOS, (who take care of the satellite leg of the communication) SMART Communications, (the largest Philippine GSM provider) and JRC, (the well known Inmarsat hardware provider) who provides the equipment for the service on board.
BOW undertakes the installation of the BOW system on board through its partner, SEACOM Electronics, at previously agreed ports. Shipping and installation of the equipment is offered free of charge.
